VEGGEN
The dance artists Fredrik Petrov, Jonathan Ibsen, and Trine Lise Moe are behind the video installation VEGGEN, which aims to bring life to passive urban spaces and structures. The pop-up installation encourages passersby to pause, look up, and see their familiar surroundings with new eyes.
VEGGEN consists of three different solo sequences that were developed and filmed separately. These are shown side by side and layered on top of each other, forming a larger whole. By combining the separate sequences, a space and a fictional reality also emerge—existing only in that very moment.
The performative video installation was created during the pandemic. It is the artists’ contribution to fostering a sense of community in a time when human relations and togetherness became scarce. Repetition, system, and collapse are key elements in the choreographic material.
After a period when many cultural experiences had to take place digitally, the creators also wish to highlight the value of physical presence and emphasize art’s own power of determination: the experience of something shared, while unfolding on art’s own terms.
Veggen premiered 28th of January 2020 in Oslo, and has been shown over 25 times across Norway, and has been programed by, Dansens Hus, Bærum Kulturhus, Harstad Kulturhus, Rosendal Teater og NORA. The performance was a part of Dansenett Norway fall 2022.
